Streaming is the primary way for viewers to see films and TV shows. Disney isn’t the only entertainment giant changing how it manages physical media. Netflix shuttered its DVD business last fall, andBest Buy decided to phase outDVDs and Blu-rays this year. Both companies cite the shift in how video content is consumed.

Disney on Friday revealed the name and opening year of thelong-awaited Splash Mountain revamp. The new opening year and name were unveiled during an event at Essence Fest in New Orleans. Splash Mountain became the target of petitions on Change.org amid the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020.

Streaming services like Hulu aren’t bound by such legal rules that cover political ads. This policy change opens the door for political advocacy and candidate advertising. Back in May, Disney revealed its plans for the new, ad-supported tier onDisney Plus. The entertainment giant said itwon’t run political or alcohol-themed adson the family-friendly streaming service. Preschool-age viewers won’t see any ads at all. The cheaper tier with commercials is due to launch later this year....

The price of ad-free Disney Plus is going up. It’s unclear what the new price will be. The move will be the third price hike since the service launched in 2019 at $7. “As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms.” Iger returned to the helm in November, promising to address the company’s streaming strategy. Hurricane-force winds are expected beginning Wednesday morning in southwest and west central Florida. Heavy rainfall with the risk of flash flooding is also expected. Guests who have partially used multiday theme park tickets will have those tickets extended through Sept. 30, 2023.
