The latest job cuts would follow a rough 2022 for the social-networking giant. In November, Meta cut 11,000 workers, representing about 13% of its workforce. Earlier in the year, it reported itsfirst revenue dropand saw a decline indaily active users on Facebook. The cutbacks come as advertisers pull back spending amid economic uncertainty. Part of that focus is thenew, $1,500 Meta Quest Pro virtual reality headsetthe company introduced in October.

The headset is expected to cost around $799, according to The Information. Meta also reportedly plans to release a follow-up to Cambria, code named Funston, in 2024. The currentMeta Quest 2, previously known as the Oculus Quest 2, starts at $299. The company declined to comment on unannounced products. Awave of new VR and mixed reality headsetsare expected this year from Sony, Apple and possibly others.

CNET has reached out to Meta to clarify why the service was shut down. After that, they’d be encouraged to share contact info to pursue their connection further.

Employees have internally dubbed this virtual currency “Zuck Bucks,” according to the report. The currency is reportedly unlikely to be a form of crypto based on blockchain.
