Tokyo Olympics to be held under state of emergency, won't allow spectators

The delayed2020 Olympicswill go ahead, but not the way Japanese officials first imagined.

Spectators will bebarred from attending the gamesin Tokyo and its surrounding areas.

Numbers have fallen since, but they’ve been rising since the middle of June.

Around 15% of Japan’s 126 million citizenshave been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

In Japan, nearly 15,000 people have died of the virus.

They’ll run through to Aug. 8.

In March, officialsbanned overseas spectatorsfrom the Olympics.
